Application of the Left Ventricular Assist System NOVACOR as Bridging for Heart Transplantation

Summary

The electromagnetically powered Novacor left ventricular assist system was used in 4 patients suffering from decompensated heart failure as a bridge to heart transplantation. All patients could be significantly recompensated during mechanical circulatory support with respect to hemodynamics, hepatic, pulmonary, and renal function. Because right heart function did improve, as well, the use of the Novacor system seems to be useful even in patients with biventricular heart failure.
