Abstract
Twenty-eight years ago, the CRT machine was invented by Dr. Hell, and at URW we have been dealing with digital formats for twenty years. We consider ourselves fortunate that we began our work utilizing the control of drawing machines to cut original letters for photosetting, i.e. from the start we had to concentrate on quality of digital type reproduction due to the size and accuracy of output required. Most typesetting machines delivered maximum letter heights of approximately 3.1 cm. Drawing machines use 10 cm as a standard height, with large images 100 cm and larger.
