Abstract
The invention of electronically controlled machines to display text and to output typographic matter has been a key factor in the development of digital type storage. Such machines are divided into three groups according to their application:

Visual display devices (VDT, graphic VDT, TV)

Typesetting machines (CRT, laser, microfilm, matrix)

Numerically Controlled (NC) machines (drawing, cutting, routing, engraving).
