Layer-by-Layer Film Growth in the Absence of Surface Diffusion

Abstract

We have studied film growth by Monte Carlo simulations of a solid-on-solid model without surface diffusion. We found that oscillations on the surface width exist due to the fact that the sticking probability depends on local surface structure, thus presenting an explanation of the experimentally observed RHEED oscillations at low temperatures when surface diffusion is suppressed.
