Abstract
In the discussion of Dr. Zeumer’s paper on central retinal artery occlusion and the therapeutic effects of thrombolysis, three major points were raised. The first was the time course of revascularization. Dr. Zeumer was asked how long it took to demonstrate clinical and angiographic revascularization. It was Dr. Zeumer’s experience that normally one would see clinical or angiographic improvement within 1 h. In the 70% of patients who revascularized, there was some evidence of clinical improvement within the first hour. It has been his experience that if no change in the patient’s condition is noted within the first hour, there is little likelihood of successful treatment.
