Zusammenfassung

Das von Ekbom (1945) beschriebene Restless-legs-Syndrom zählt zu den häufigsten und oft übersehenen Ursachen von Schlafstörungen. Es wird in eine idiopathische und in sekundäre oder symptomatische Formen eingeteilt. Das idiopathische Restless-legs-Syndrom tritt familiär gehäuft auf und wird autosomal dominant vererbt. Unterschiedliche Ausprägungen der klinischen Symptomatik innerhalb einer Familie sind beschrieben (Walters et al. 1990). Angaben von Häufigkeiten schwanken mit einer Prävalenz zwischen 1 und 5% (Ekbom 1945; Gibb u. Lees 1986a). Die Angaben zur Häufigkeit bei niereninsuffizienten Patienten werden zwischen 20 und 40% der dialysepflichtigen Patienten (Ausserwinkler u. Schmidt 1989) angegeben. Zur Beschreibung des Beschwerdebildes stellten Gibb u. Lees (1986a) die wichtigsten diagnostischen klinischen Symptome zusammen (s. unten).
