Abstract

Newtonian mechanics is a general theory which allows us to calculate the motion of bodies given a knowledge of force laws. Of the important force laws, which were numerated in Sect. 2.3, so far we have investigated in great depth the Newtonian law of gravitation and linear force laws for small oscillations of a many particle system about its point of equilibrium.
