Abstract
The need to provide more interactive clinical consultations as well as retrieve images quickly (preventing image loss) and control the flow of image information has promoted the idea of incorporating a local area network (LAN) into imaging departments. This need was fueled by the observation that the full capabilities of digital image-producing modalities were rarely utilized routinely and by the proliferation of imaging techniques and clinical specialists participating in the generation and interpretation of them. This development is basically office automation for workers who deal with images in addition to text.
