Abstract

The 3-D medical imaging over the last decade have got many evolutions to display volumetric medical data. These advances are summarized and compared introducing a new way for volumetrical display called “solid modelling”. This paper focuses display methods towards image quality and interactivity. A new and efficient development of a raytracing algorithm featuring the volume rendering approach is explained and solutions to resolve interactivity problems using a special data structure are presented. This algorithm provides faster computation, convenient tools to interact with the original volume and several display modalities, allowing image quality and fast computation time to analyze the original data. A new volumetric visualization using voxel classification and transparency is presented.
