Abstract

A mere 25% of liver metastases resulting from colorectal carcinomas are resectable. Untreated, the other 75% of patients have a median life expectancy of 6–8 months. In these cases, regional chemotherapy of the liver may be indicated. Since, however, regional intra-arterial chemotherapy extends the median life expectancy at best to approximately 15 months [4], the treatment must meet especially high requirements in regard to comfort and freedom from complications. Our study pursued two aims: to compare the technical aspects of various port systems to find the one with the most points in its favor and then to describe experiences made with this system.
