Zusammenfassung
Das Nierenzellkarzinom (NZK) ist der häufigste von den Nieren abstammende maligne Tumor, der ungefähr 7 von 100 000 Erwachsenen befällt. Das Nierenzellkarzinom tritt zwar meistens sporadisch auf, jedoch wurden einige Familien und eine autosomal vererbliche Erkrankung, die Hippel-Lindau-Krankheit, mit Prädisposition zu Nierenzellkarzinomen beschrieben (Cohen et al. 1979; Kovacs et al. 1989; Lamiell et al. 1989). Es gibt keine zufriedenstellende Methode zur Früherkennung des Nierenzellkarzinoms, so daß bei fast 30% der Patienten zum Zeitpunkt der Diagnose bereits eine Metastase vorliegt. Bei einem in der Niere lokalisierten Nierenzellkarzinom stellt eine Operation die wirksamste Behandlung dar, während ein metastatischer Tumor praktisch unheilbar ist. Neuere Behandlungsansätze beinhalten die Anwendung sog. „biologic response modifiers“zur Verstärkung der antitumorösen Wirkungen des Immunsystems. Die Gesamtwirkung ist jedoch gering und die Behandlung nur palliativ.
