Zusammenfassung
Eine von Menschen herbeigeführte Klimaveränderung durch den sogenannten Treibhauseffekt, ausgelöst durch eine Erhöhung des CO2-Anteils der Lufthülle, oder durch die Einwirkung stärkerer UV-Strahlung auf die Erdoberfläche, bedingt durch eine anwachsende Zerstörung der Ozonschicht durch Treib- und Abgase, wird immer wahrscheinlicher (Beran 1991; Wiin-Nielsen 1991). Die neuesten Modellrechnungen, an denen die deutsche Klimaforschung mit ihrem Hamburger Klimarechenzentrum maßgeblich beteiligt ist, sagen bis zum Jahr 2085 eine Erhöhung der mittleren globalen Oberflächentemperatur um 3 °C und einen mittleren Meeresspiegelanstieg um 16 cm voraus (Milliman 1989), was bedeutet, daß in Regionen mit großem Tidenhub ein Anstieg des Meeresspiegels von mehreren Metern zu verzeichnen sein kann (Jacobson 1989).
