Summary

Histological differentiation among dysplastic nevus cell nevi and melanomas, Spitz’s tumors and spitzoid melanomas, as well as nevus cell nevi and nevoid melanomas, may be difficult. In the case of transformation of (dysplastic) nevus cell nevi to melanoma, the discrimination of the malignant part, in order to define the invasion and tumor thickness, can be almost impossible. The present contribution deals with histological criteria which may allow differentiation between melanoma and nonmelanoma.
