Abstract
In Chap. 19 entitled “Sport Philosophy”, the attempt was made to present the sport philosophical discussion primarily from the view of various emphases of publications. This chapter will attempt to make the development of sport philosophy transparent by giving an outline of the problem genesis and the resulting key questions. Since specific problems of a philosophy of sport are derived from the general problems of philosophical thinking, some short introductory remarks will be made. It will become clear why sport philosophy cannot be defined based on a specific subject area or a special object, in a manner analogous to sport pedagogy, sport psychology, etc. Sport philosophy evolves from the special way of seeing, speaking and thinking about the world or a section of the world. Sport philosophy defines its research problems virtually “crosswise” to all other sub-disciplines of sport science; it can become the metascience of the sciences of other areas.
