Abstract

In the Federal Republic of Germany, the development of sport science and the currently predominant understanding of science are also reflected in the subdiscipline of motor behavior. Corresponding to the diversity of forms of human movement depending on environmental and social conditions, of questions and problems ranging from movement disorders to athletic top-level performance and of the differentiation of knowledge interests, methods, and paradigms of the scientific discipline, research and the formation of themes in this field are aimed -in a broad sense — toward the “... complete system that takes part in the production of intentional, goal-oriented movement actions. It describes and explains the structures and functions, their balance and changes in the course of developmental, learning and training processes as well as the connected exchange of information and energy, which form the foundation for this system. External aspects such as changes in space and time and their muscle- and neurophysiological causes are taken into consideration as well as internal aspects such as cognition and experiencing” (Mechling, 1984, p.89).
