Zusammenfassung

Heutzutage beträgt in den westlichen Industrienationen der Anteil der Altersgruppe über 65 Jahre etwa 10% [1]. Gastrointestinale Beschwerden sind eine der Hauptursachen für Arztbesuche in dieser Altersgruppe. Dies unterstreicht die Bedeutung gastrointestinaler Störungen des Seniums in der klinischen Praxis. Zweifellos ist der Gastrointestinaltrakt und seine Motilität dem Einfluß des Alterns unterworfen. Bei der Charakterisierung dieser Veränderungen muß die schwierige Aufgabe angegangen werden, zwischen physiologischen Alterungsvorgängen und der Manifestation von Erkrankungen im Senium zu differenzieren.
