Abstract
In opioid pharmacology both the development of pharmacodynamic concepts and knowledge in behavioral preparations and the use of pharmacodynamic concepts and knowledge to explain results from behavioral preparations have a rich history (e.g., Martin 1967). At present, knowledge about the pharmacodynamics of opioid agonists continues to increase from work performed in a variety of systems which range from the behavioral to the molecular. One goal of much of the work in our laboratory has been to continue to expand the process of applying pharmacodynamic knowledge to the task of understanding the behavioral effects of opioid agonists across a wide range of conditions.
