Abstract

In comparison to the commonly performed transurethral adenomectomy the retropubic method of prostatectomy has gained new importance recently. This is due to the extensive studies of Roos et al. [7], who demonstrated that the rate of necessary reoperations was four to six times more frequent after transurethral adenomectomy than with retropubic prostatectomy. In this study the average weight of the trans-urethrally treated prostates was 66g. Most urologists, however, prefer the retropubic adenomectomy only for heavier prostates.
