Abstract
One of the main limitations of computed tomography (CT) is that for most of the body areas or organs only axial images can be obtained. Direct coronal image acquisition is almost limited to the skull and the foot, though in the past some techniques have been developed to acquire direct coronal scans of the pelvis and abdomen. With CT, coronal, sagittal, or oblique scans have to be reformattedTrom a stack of contiguous axial slices. Reformatted images have a limited anisotropic resolution; the resolution along the z-axis is largely determined by the slice thickness.
