Abstract

The tetradecapeptide hormone somatostatin was first detected in the ovine hypothalamus and was described as growth hormone release inhibitor by Brazeau et al. [13]. Numerous studies have been performed to elucidate effects and possible therapeutic uses of this hormone. More recently analogs of somatostatin were synthesized and investigated with different aims in various animal and human studies.
