Abstract
Our knowledge of pancreatic pseudocysts has changed during the past few decades. Today it is unanimously agreed that acute and chronic pseudocysts are different. It is well known that the most frequent complication following acute pancreatitis is the development of a pseudocyst or pseudocyst-like fluid collection. With the help of computed tomography and ultrasound it is well documented that about 40% of pseudocysts resolve spontaneously. Therefore today our therapeutic tactics have changed accordingly. The application of interventional radiology — percutaneous drainage, combined endoscopic double pig-tail or endoscopically performed cysto-gastrostomy or cystoduodenostomy — has decreased the number of surgical operations.
