Abstract

The similarities in age, geologic setting, and ore association in the various gold districts of eastern Hebei province documented in Chapter 3 suggest the likelihood of a common origin. The purpose of this chapter is to synthesize data and observations from all of the deposits studied in an attempt to constrain their origin. The chapter is organized according to the six metallogenetic questions posed in the introduction, namely:

  1. 4.1

    The age of mineralization.

  2. 4.2

    The source of gold.

  3. 4.3

The role of iron-rich host rocks.

  4. 4.4

    The role of granites.

  5. 4.5

    Structural controls.

  6. 4.6

The nature of ore-bearing fluids and conditions of mineralization.

The following discussions are based partly on information from Chapters 2 and 3, and partly on data not previously presented in the text.
