Introducing Dissipation in the Schrödinger Picture

Abstract

We discuss various methods of introducing dissipation to the Schrodinger picture, in the light of the de Broglie-Bohm quantum potential viewpoint. This favours non-linear equations, and Kostin’s Schrödinger-Langevin equation in particular. Generally the non-linearity forces the abandonment of the superposition principle. We give a simple example, the decay of small coherent oscillations, however, where an approximate analytical damped superposition solution may be found.
