Abstract

We study the dynamics of topological excitation in a 1D array of tunnel junctions. The collective coordinates, which are used to describe solitons as relativistic particles, are presented, and are used to show the effect of dissipation and fluctuations. In particular, the dissipation correction to the Lorentz contraction and the relativistic correction to the diffusion are calculated. The results are applied to magnetic solitons and to single charge solitons. We estimate the conditions needed to observe quantum effects without classical analogies in the soliton dynamics.
