Zusammenfassung
Besonderes Forschungsinteresse hat in den letzten Jahren der Komplex von psychischen und somatischen Symptomen erweckt, der üblicherweise als „prämenstruelles Syndrom“ zusammengefaßt wird, seit Frank (1931) mit seiner Arbeit „Hormonal causes of premenstrual tension“ die diesbezügliche Forschung inspiriert hat. Insbesondere hinsichtlich der Ursachenforschung werden verstärkt Anstrengungen unternommen, wobei sowohl biologische und hormonelle als auch psychodynamische und persönlichkeitsbedingte Faktoren untersucht werden. Eine Konsequenz aus dem verstärkten Interesse am prämenstruellen Syndrom ist die Aufnahme einer Kategorie „Dysphorische Störung der Späten Lutealphase“ im DSM-III-R in der Rubrik „Vorschläge für diagnostische Kategorien, die weiterer Forschung bedürfen“ (APA 1989), womit „weitere systematische klinische Studien und Forschungsarbeiten“ angeregt werden sollen.
