Zusammenfassung
Der Rektumprolaps ist ein Vorfall, d.h. eine Verlage rung, von Rektumwand in das Rektumlumen und den Analkanal hinein oder durch diesen hindurch nach außen. Beim äußeren Prolaps kommt es zu einer Ausstülpung des Rektums, häufig auch des Analkanals. Diese Eversion kann weniger vollständig sein, wenn sie am Anorektalring oder noch höher Halt macht. Der Vorfall beginnt meistens mit der vorderen, selten mit der hinteren Rektumwand und erreicht häufig die ganze Zirkumferenz. Wenn die sich einstülpende Rektumwand nur bis vor den verschlossenen Analkanal oder in diesen hinein, nicht jedoch nach außen tritt, spricht man von einem inneren Prolaps. Man kann den Rektumprolaps daher als Invagination, Einstülpung und Intussuszeption betrachten, die beim äußeren Prolaps zur transanalen, sichtbaren Protrusion oder Ausstülpung werden. Im Gegensatz zum Mukosaprolaps ist der Rektumprolaps ein Vorfall aller Wandschichten. Der innere Prolaps wird in der englischen Literatur jedoch auch „anterior mucosal Prolapse“ oder „mucosal prolapse Syndrome“ genannt.
