Abstract
Of the five components, — anterior segment, vitreous, fundus, visual acuity and fluorescein angiography — the uveitis scoring system proposed herein emphasizes specifically the importance of the first three in assessing the rapid changes of intraocular inflammation intensity. Each of these is graded and scored separately. A cumulative score should not be worked out, since in the presence of extensive opacities of the media (e. g. hypopyon uveitis, cataract, extensive vitreous haze) grading of the fundus may not be possible. In addition, maintaining a distinction between the anterior and posterior components permits the system to be applied equally to uveitis restricted to the anterior segment and to posterior segment disease with secondary anterior segment involvement.
