Abstract
We performed a systematic study of the effects of oxygen stoichiometry and Zn, Ni and Al doping on specific heat of Ba2YCu3Oy system. The results of low temperature specific heat experiments suggest that the finite T linear (γ*) term remaining in the superconducting state and the upturn of Cp/T at the lowest temperatures are related to disorder in the CuO2 plane and the CuO chain, respectively. A double peak structure observed in a fully oxidized y=6.92 sample was found to be extremely sensitive to the oxygen depletion or chain doping. Samples of y=6.88~6.90 or M=Al x=0.5 at.% substituted sample revealed a distinct single peak of mean field type with ΔCp/Tc as large as 50~60mJ/(mol·K2).
