Ultrasonic Studies in La2-x(Ba,Sr)xCuO4

Abstract

The sound velocity and the resistivity in polycrystalline La1.875(Ba1-ySry)0.125CuO4(LBSCO) have been measured as a function of temperature and Sr concentration y. Upon cooling, an increase in the sound velocity is observed at Td2 which is the orthorhombic-to- low-temperature-tetragonal structural phase transition (SPT) temperature. Although Td2 decreases with increasing y, it takes a finite value of about 10K even in La1.875Sr0.125CuO4. In LBSCO, Td2 differs from Tm, where the resistivity reaches a minimum.
