Abstract
Carrier concentration dependence of phonon and magnon Raman scattering is investigated in high-Tc superconductors. Infrared active transverse optical phonons which are originally Raman inactive are found to appear only at the superconductor compositions in La2−xSrxCuO4. This indicates that the local inversion symmetry is breaking there. The fact that the local distortion is associated with doped holes only at the superconductor region indicates that polarons are strongly related to the superconductivity mechanism.
