Abstract
The charge-transfer (CT) type excitations from 0 2p to Cu 3d and to Cu 4s states have been observed around 1.5 eV and 5.0 eV, respectively, in the T’-phase cuprates Ln2CuO4 where Ln=Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu or Gd. Strong dependences of the CT excitation energies on Ln species indicate the crucial effect of the in-plane Cu-O bond length variation on the electronic states in the CuO2-sheets.

The result does not agree well with the data by S.L. Cooper et. al., [Phys. Rev. B42, 10785 (1990)] The difference seems to come from the accuracy of K-K analyses: the photon energy region for the measured reflectivity data used in the K-K transformation is ≤ 2.5 eV for their case, but ≤ 35 eV for our case.
