Abstract
The bound states of p holes in the one-dimensional two-band model for the CuO chains are studied within the mean-field theory. The binding energies of p holes are shown as a function of the transfer energy of d holes, for the ant ferromagnetic and ferromagnetic exchange interactions between d and p hole spins, respectively. As the itinerancy of d holes increases, the values of the spin densities at the Cu sites decrease, as a result, p holes pair strongly in a singlet state.
