Typische GIS-Systeme sind in der Regel eher analytisch orientiert. Die Verknüpfung dieser GIS-Systeme mit Fragestellungen, deren Schwerpunkt in Modellbildung und Optimierung liegt, soll anhand von graphisch orientierten Planungssystemen, wie sie die Firma PTV Planungsbüro Transport und Verkehr GmbH entwickelt, aufgezeigt werden.
