Zusammenfassung

Der Schlaf ist durch ein typisches Muster zentralnervöser, peripher-somatischer, peripher-autonomer und peripher-endokriner Aktivierungsprozesse gekennzeichnet. Neben zircadianen Sekretionsrhythmen (z. B. Weitzmann 1980; Veldhuis et al. 1990) sind für eine Reihe von Hormonen ultradiane Oszillationen der Sekretion nachgewiesen worden. Während des Schlafs verlaufen diese Sekretionsrhythmen zeitlich parallel mit dem NREM-REM-Rhythmus (Brandenberger et al. 1985; Born et al. 1988 b; Fehm et al. 1991; Follenius et al. 1988). Hormone mit sehr charakteristischen Sekretionsverläufen während des nächtlichen Schlafs sind das Wachstumshormon („growth hormone“ — GH), das luteinisierende Hormon (LH), Renin und das Kortisol.
