Zusammenfassung

Die Depression ist neben den dementieilen Erkrankungen die häufigste psychiatrische Affektion im Alter, die, wenn sie erkannt wird, zu der am besten behandelbaren psychiatrischen Alterserkrankung zu zählen ist. Ein depressives Syndrom ist jedoch keine unumgängliche Begleiterscheinung des Alters, d.h. mit dem Alter per se allein nicht erklärbar.
