Biological and Psychosocial Considerations in Recovery from Brain Damage

Abstract

During the past 20 years there has been an increasing interest in brain plasticity and the capacity for recovery of function following brain damage. The capacity of the brain to reorganize following damage had not been generally recognized before that time for many reasons (discussed in Bach-y-Rita 1988). This new surge of interest in recovery of function has led to a series of therapeutic approaches to the brain-damaged patient.
