Abstract

We report on the design and development of a multimedia, multi-user system to support business strategic planning. The system can be used by a single user as a tutorial system or to prepare for or review a meeting, or a group of managers can use the system with a single computer that is projected on a screen. However, to utilize the full capabilities of the system, a computer- supported meeting room, such as CMI’s Capture Lab, is required. In a computer-supported meeting room, the system allows individual and group work as part of the planning and consensus-building processes. Video, voice, and animation are incorporated to educate users in strategic planning concepts. To account for the expense and availability of equipment, the system is configurable so that a range from full multimedia capabilities to voice, text, and simple animation is allowed.
