Zusammenfassung
Die Einführung der Laserchirurgie war unzweifelhaft der wichtigste Fortschritt in der operativen Behand-lung der Glaukome während der 80er Jahre und es be-stehen mit der zunehmenden Verbesserung der La-sertechnologien und vielversprechenden Neuent-wicklungen in den 90er Jahren gute Aussichten für eine Erweiterung unseres operativen Indikationsbe-reiches. Das Behandlungsprinzip, mit Hilfe von Licht-energie intraokulare Strukturen zu beeinflussen, wur-de bereits vor Beginn der Lasertechnologie geprägt. Meyer-Schwickerath [1] begann in den späten 40er Jahren seine Pionierarbeiten auf diesem Gebiet der Ophthalmochirurgie, indem er zunächst Sonnenlicht und später das Licht einer Xenonbogenlampe auf intraokulare Gewebe fokussierte. Er wurde damit der Begründer der Lichtkoagulation am Auge. Wenn-gleich damit die große Ära einer neuen Ophthalmochirurgie begann, ließ sich der Xenonbogenkoagu-lator für Zwecke der Glaukombehandlung nicht ver-wenden.
