Zusammenfassung
β-Sympatholytika, β-adrenerge Antagonisten oder „β-Blocker“ (eine in der klinischen Literatur häufig gebrauchte Kurzbezeichnung) sind die am häufigsten angewandten Wirkstoffe bei der Behandlung des chronischen Glaukoms. Der am ersten kommerziell verfügbare β-Blocker war Propranolol, der 1967 zur Behandlung der kardialen Arrhythmie, der Angina pectoris und des Bluthochdrucks eingeführt wurde. Man bemerkte schnell, daß dieser Wirkstoff auch den Augeninnendruck sowohl bei peroraler Applikation [1–5], bei topischer Applikation am Auge [6,7], wie auch bei intravenoser Applikation [8] senkt.
