Zusammenfassung

Wie bereits in Kap. 9 besprochen, wird ein bestimmter Prozentsatz der allgemeinen Bevölkerung auf eine wiederholte lokale wie auch systemische Steroidmedikation mit unterschiedlichem Augeninnendruckanstieg reagieren. Dies tritt bei Patienten mit einem primären Offenwinkelglaukom oder einer Familienanamnese von Glaukom häufiger auf. Es gibt noch viele ungeklärte Aspekte bezüglich des Effektes von Steroiden auf den Augeninnendruck, wie z. B. die genaue Verteilung von Steroid-“Respondern“in der allgemeinen Bevölkerung, die Reproduzierbarkeit der Steroideffekte auf den Augeninnendruck oder die hereditären Einflüsse. Dies ändert nichts an der kritischen Tatsache, daß bestimmte Menschen auf eine längerfristige Steroidtherapie mit massiven Augen-drucksteigerungen reagieren und, daß diese Drucksteigerungen zu einer glaukomatosen Optikusatrophie und zum Verlust des Sehvermögens führen können. Eine derartige Situation wird deshalb als Steroidglaukom bezeichnet.
