Abstract

Our knowledge of the mutagenic potentialities of environmental substances is increasing rapidly. This is not only true with regard to industrial wastes or pollutants, herbicides, and insecticides, but also for drugs, ingredients of medicinal plants, beverages, food preservatives, and luxuries. In many cases, root tip mitoses of Vicia faba or Allium cepa are used as test material. These papers are not considered in the present chapter. I shall confine myself to the ingredients of plants in daily use, which were found to be mutagenic.
