Abstract
Over the years, the numerical models used for climate studies have evolved from one-dimensional energy balance models to coupled three- dimensional models, comprising the various sub-systems of the climate systems; atmosphere, ocean, sea-ice, glaciers, lakes on continents, the land surfaces including their biomass (in order to represent the full carbon cycle), etc.
