Abstract

Since this atlas first appeared in 1969, further articles and monographs have been published on the use of phase-contrast microscopy in gynecology and cytology (e.g., Jenny 1977; Breinl 1979). In numerous courses and symposia, gynecologists, urologists, and cytologists have been familiarized with the implementation and diagnostic potential of this procedure. Nevertheless, this method has still not assumed the role in practice that it in fact merits. The goal of this second edition is to present the principles and current technical standards of phase-contrast mircoscopy in such a way as to permit their direct application in practice. Knowledge of the design and operation of the microscope is presupposed.

Zusammenfassung

Seit dem Erscheinen der Erstauflage dieses Atlas, im Jahr 1969, wurden weitere Arbeiten und Bücher über die Anwendung der Phasenkontrastmikroskopie in der Gynäkologie und Zytologie veröffentlicht (u.a. Jenny 1977, Breinl 1979). In zahlreichen Fortbildungskursen und Symposien wurden Gynäkologen, Urologen und Zytologen mit der Handhabung und den diagnostischen Möglichkeiten dieses Verfahrens vertraut gemacht. Trotzdem hat die Methode in der Praxis noch immer nicht den Stellenwert, den sie eigentlich verdient. Es ist das Ziel dieser zweiten Auflage, die Grundlagen und den aktuellen technischen Standard der Phasenkontrastmikroskopie so darzustellen, daß sie direkt in die Praxis übertragen werden können. Der Aufbau und die Handhabung des Mikroskopes werden dabei als bekannt vorausgesetzt.
