Zusammenfassung
Das prostataspezifische Antigen (PSA) ist eine Glykoprotein-Serin-Protease mit einem Molekulargewicht von 34 000 Dalton, die im Zytoplasma von epithelialen Zellen der Prostata innerhalb des endoplasmatischen Retikulums, der zytoplasmatischen Vesikeln und Vakuolen nachgewiesen werden kann. Im Prostatagewebe wurde das prostataspezifische Antigen erstmals durch Wang et al. [17] isoliert. Dasselbe Antigen wurde jedoch bereits 1973 von Li und Beling [8] im Seminalplasma nachgewiesen. Sensabaugh und Crim [12] gelang es im Jahre 1978, das PSA im Seminalplasma zu charakterisieren.Wichtig ist es zu beachten, daß es sich beim prostataspezifischen Antigen nicht um einen karzinomspezifischen, sondern um einen gewebespezifischen Marker der Prostata handelt. Die biochemischen Charakteristika des PSA sind in Tabelle 1 wiedergegeben.
