Zusammenfassung

Die immunologisch orientierte Biochemie in der Sportmedizin hat sich in zweierlei Weise entwickelt: Einmal ist sie direkt innerhalb der Sportmedizin - und dann besonders methodisch und praxisbezogen — gewachsen, zum anderen ist sie auf interessanten Umwegen in diese wissenschaftliche Fachrichtung gelangt. Letzteres hat unbestreitbare Vorteile, denn, ähnlich wie im Leistungssport, haben die Außenseiter größere Erfolgsaussichten, weil sie neue Impulse und kreative Ansätze von außen mit hineintragen. So ist es auch geradezu exemplarisch im Werdegang von Prof. H. Weicker, der, was die wissenschaftliche Evolution anbetrifft, dem Lebenslauf des einen von uns (G. Uhlenbruck) in verblüffender Weise ähnelt, daß beide sich mit der Immunbiologie der Erythrozytenmembranstrukturen beschäftigt haben. Drei wichtige Abschnitte zeichnen den Entwicklungsweg Weickers vor:

  1. 1)

    Die Arbeiten über das Rh-Antigen, welches, eingebettet in das Lipidmosaik der Zellmembran, den Prototyp eines serologischen Rezeptors repräsentiert. In diesem Zusammenhang wurden wertvolle Erkenntnisse über den strukturellen Aufbau von Zellmembranen gewonnen (Weicker u. Metz 1971; Weicker et al. 1973) und der Einfluß topochemischer Gegebenheiten auf Immunreaktionen aufgezeigt.

  2. 2)

    Arbeiten zur immunologischen Charakterisierung von LDL (Roelcke u. Weicker 1969), einer Substanz, deren sportmedizinische Bedeutung erst viel später evident werden sollte.

  3. 3)

    Publikationen zur Serologie und Immunchemie von glykoproteinassoziierten Blutgruppensubstanzen der Erythrozytenmembran: über Ii, Pr, MN-Antigene sowie den Einfluß von Proteasen (Ficin) auf erythrozytäre Glykoproteinstrukturen in der äußeren Membran (Roelcke et al. 1971 a). Zur gleichen Zeit haben wir unsererseits über das gleiche Thema (MN, Pr) mit der gleichen Arbeitsgruppe um Roelcke zusammengearbeitet (Roelcke et al. 1971 b).
