Zusammenfassung
Sport wird als eine Möglichkeit zur Förderung, Erhaltung und Wiederherstellung der Gesundheit angesehen und entsprechend propagiert. Der organisierte Sport benutzt zunehmend das Gesundheitsmotiv zu seiner eigenen Rechtfertigung und als Argumentationshilfe für seine Forderungen an Staat und Gesellschaft Die Ansprüche an die Gesundheit sind aber unterschiedlich, und Ambivalenzen sind unverkennbar. Wer Sport als Prävention betreibt, tut dies, um seine Gesundheit zu erhalten oder zu fördern. Andere treiben Sport, um wieder gesund zu werden. Dieser therapeutische oder rehabilitative Aspekt offenbart aber auch besonders deutlich den ambivalenten Charakter sportlicher Betätigung. Bei Nichtbeachtung der individuellen Belastbarkeitsgrenzen und Kontraindikationen droht eine Krank- heitsprogredienz bis hin zu akuten Todesfallen. Schließlich gibt es die Gruppe der Leistungssportler, deren Motivation ganz primär darin besteht, die individuell mögliche Höchstleistung zu erreichen. Aber Leistungssport macht nicht zwangsläufig krank, und Gesundheit ist eine notwendige Voraussetzung für sportliche Spitzenleistungen.
