Zusammenfassung
Charles Dickens beschrieb im vorigen Jahrhundert in seinem Werk The Pickwick Papers „a fat and red-faced boy in a state of somnolency“, der von ihm auch als „young dropsy“, „young opium eater“ oder als „boa constrictor“ bezeichnet wurde — sicherlich aufgrund einer Fettleibigkeit. Dieser Erstbeschreibung in der Literatur folgte die wissenschaftliche Definition als Krankheitsbild erst im Jahre 1956 durch Prader, Labhart und Willi (Prader et al. 1956) und ist seitdem als Prader-Willi-Syndrom bekannt.
