Aus 1001 Nacht kennen wir alle den Kalifen Harun al Raschid, der für das goldene Zeitalter von Bagdad steht. Sein Sohn al Mamun nahm einen Mathematiker in seine Dienste, dessen Name schließlich dem Algorithmus gegeben wurde: al Chorezmi, heute meist al Khowarizmi geschrieben.
