Summary

Postoperative follow-up of three types of multifocal intraocular lenses have been investigated: diffractive convex-concave (n = 45) IOLs, diffraktive biconve (n = 36) IOLs and refractive bifocal IOLs (n = 32). Patients with diffractive IOL had a postoperative visual acuity better than 0.8, comparable to that of Standard monofocal PMMA IOL. The visual acuity was significantly less in patients with refractive bifocal IOLs. All three IOLs yielded in good acuity in near distance without additional correction. Low contrast and glare visual acuity tests revealed losses with all three lens types compared to Standard PMMA IOL. However, the biconvex diffractive IOL showed acuity under glare conditions significantly better than the convex-concave type.
