Zusammenfassung

„Psychische Störungen sind nur in ihrem sozialen Kontext adäquat zu verstehen“. „Zwischen psychischen Störungen und sozialer Umwelt bestehen immer enge Wechselwirkungen“. „Alle psychischen Störungen sind sozial (mit-)be-dingt“. Solche und ähnliche Formulierungen liegen uns in den Ohren, wenn wir an den psychiatrischen Stellenwert der sog. „sozialen Dimension“ denken, der im vorliegenden Beitrag reflektiert werden soll. Auf der andern Seite klingen freilich auch ganz gegenläufige Ideen an, wie etwa Griesingers berühmte — und neuerdings wieder aktuelle — These aus dem letzten Jahrhundert: „Geisteskrankheiten sind Gehirnkrankheiten“, oder die periodisch überhandnehmende Überzeugung, daß alle wichtigen psychischen Störungen vorwiegend genetisch bedingt seien, wogegen soziale Faktoren darin, wenn überhaupt, höchstens eine „pathoplastische“ Rolle spielen würden.
